A very light listening week as I had to spend considerable time in music-free environments.
- Young Marble Giants - I really don’t know this band nearly as well as I should
- Sex Pistols - Marty and I were talking about Never Mind the Bollocks so of course I had to cue some up. That album is still a monster.
- PJ Harvey - no special reason
- Moviola - a gift subscription to Big Takeover has inspired a whole lot of eMusic downloading. This is a little smoother, more Americana, and less indie-rock than I was expecting.
- Damnzal - an embarrassing mistake. The cover of “Cherry Bomb” was trashy fun and persuaded me to download more. “Sin City” was not a cover of the AC/DC tune, and it was downhill from there.
- Psykik Volts - The first Big Takeover review out-of-the-ballpark hit. Apparently this band released an EP and played some showns in 1979, then re-released the EP and recorded some of their live set in 2006. It’s on the jittery edge of new wave and punk, and I think it’s wonderful.
- The High Water Marks - the review that made me plonk down the credits for this one didn’t even mention that it’s Hilarie Sidney (ex-Apples in Stereo)’s new band
- The Lee Major 7th - I love the name of this band. The album is not bad, shoegazery, but a little more pop/less drone than many practitioners. Not all the songs have drums, which doesn’t strike me as a plus, but it’s still been a pleasant listen.
- Let’s Go Sailing - A negative Big Takeover review convinced me that I wanted to hear this.
- Earlimart - more Big Takeoverish ness. Need more time with this to see if it sticks to the ribs or not.

Re: The Lee Major 7th - I was actually shocked at how good this record is. Is this their only CD?
