i hate the sound of guitars

   I listened to All Hope Is Gone and to my surprise, I kinda liked it. The lyrics were mostly of the “the world is screwed up” strain of metal, which I markedly prefer to “I’m screwed up”, “I am in fantasy/horror/satan-land,” and “I want to party” strains of metal lyrics.
6. Tie: Athamay [I think this is one of the most unintentionally funny goth bands of all time. Speak-sung cheese-perv lyrics with a sharply constrained vocabulary over minimalist, generic moody dance backing tracks (I think “flesh,” “pain,” “pleasure,” “leather,” “whip,” and “domination,” each appear as many times as “stupid” does on the first Psychedlic Furs LP)], B for Brontosaurus, Black Tambourine, The Mountain Goats, Shooting Star [another ill-advised excurison into 80’s AOR that I used to like. These guys apparently wanted to be Kansas.]
