- The Capstan Shafts – (still. This week was about giving some love to some of the compilation tracks, like “Brightest Color Shy of a Rainbow” and “Eater of Rainclouds”)
- The Mountain Goats – (still)
- The Brother Kite – One of my favorite Rhode Island bands of the moment
- The Moaners – This guitar/drums duo opened for The Mountain Goats. I liked frontwoman Melissa Swingle’s old band Trailer Bride (often tagged country-goth), but it was drummer Laura King who impressed me most. I think almost all the songs were in 4, but she often moved the kick around from measure to measure. (It didn’t hurt that her kit was set up side-on to the audience, so it was unusually easy to see exactly what she was playing.) It seemed like it would be an interesting band to play bass in (although they’re bass-less).
- Channels – I’ve been on a little bit of a DC kick lately.
- Beauty Pill – (ditto)
- Shoddy Workmanship – Oh dear, this is a bit embarrassing. I saw a friend’s very unabashedly mathy band, [danger: myspace link] Hangman’s Alphabet last week, and got inspired to relive my own attempts to play math rock, which occurred in my brief tenure with Shoddy.
- British Sea Power – Not just the new one
- Killing Joke – I just got What’s THIS for…! from Lala.com. I think the one I really want is the self-titled album; between that and Nighttime, that might be plenty. This one was disappointing. Not very tuneful, but not harsh or dense enough to make me overlook the lack of hooks.
- Times New Viking – (still)
229 unique artists, 533 tracks played.
