- The Capstan Shafts – Dreamily’s Throttled Revolts is really getting its hooks into me now, especially “Playing Doctrine” and “She Makes Amazing Look Stupid.”
- The Mountain Goats – We saw The Mountain Goats last Friday, and I need to find time to write about the excellence of that show and of the new album Heretic Pride separately.
- The Magnetic Fields – Distortion remains in heavy rotation, along with a generous smattering of catalog Magnetic Fields. I never wrote about the recent Magnetic Fields show either, did I?
- D.O.A. – Still not enjoying The Dawning of a New Error, 13 Flavours of Doom, or Loggerheads as much as I remember, although there certainly are some highlights, like “Fucked Up Ronnie,” “New Wave Sucks” and “Phantom Zone.” Now I really am almost done.
- Lolita Storm – I always mixed this outfit up with Chicks on Speed, who I noticed have a new single. I don’t actually have any Chicks on Speed, so I listened to some of this instead.
- The Features – have a major label hard-luck story that’s not nearly as unpleasant as The Wrens’, but is still pretty bad. They’re not nearly as good as The Wrens, but they’re still pretty good.
- Hands on Heads – I think I like this, but the songs all go by in a blur. Need to listen more.
- Times New Viking – Some of this is nigh-brilliant, with “Teen Drama” probably taking top honors. But Rip It Off is so relentlessly crispy and harsh that I can’t enjoy listening to it straight through. It’s an album of bubbly litte pop tunes, but it’s harsh more like Metal Machine Music than harsh like Jesus and Mary Chain or Parts & Labor.
- Be Your Own Pet – The sophomore album drops imminently, but I’m remembering how much I liked the first one. Energy! They have a new drummer now, and it’s hard for me to imagine that’s going to be a good thing.
- Cranes – the latest artist to get the catalogue loaded into my iTunes
181 unique artists, 509 tracks played.
