- My Bloody Valentine
- Simca Heled and Ed Brewer
I was going to have a classical music*-only week, but I wimped-out part way through. Heled and Brewer get the nod for baroque (not classical … you see the problem?) cello sonatas.
* (for want of a better term) - Ho-Ag
- School of Seven Bells
This outfit includes folks from On!Air!Libary! a band I liked despite the annoying punctuation. The album starts out strong but doesn’t quite maintain — or maybe I just get tired of the sound before they stop playing. - Tigers Can Bite You
This band found its way into my heart because they named a song after one of the mushy in-jokes my wonderful girlfriend* and I share. They continue to remind me (in basically a good way) of Blonde Redhead with their sophomore LP/EP release.
* (Yes, I am trying to Googlebomb that phrase. Really, if you look up “wonderful girlfriend” in the dictionary, that’s who you should see.) - Rachel Baron/Wendy Warner
20th century violin/cello music. Still not classical. - Bishop Allen
Not a local band after all, it turns out, despite they name. They went to school here, but now call Brooklyn home. - Philharmonia Virtuosi
Some Haydn symphonies. Now that’s classical. - Murray Khouri, clarinet; John McCabe, piano
Brahms. Not classical. - Vic Chesnutt
Dark Developments, his new collaboration with Elf Power. Apparently recorded last winter, so there’s no way he could have known how topical “Phil the Fiddler” would sound in election season. - On!Air!Library!
What! An! Annoying! Name! - Philharmonia Hungarian
The magnificent final two Mozart symphonies, two of my very, very favorite pieces of music. Actually classical. - Reigning Sound
72 artists, 286 tracks.
